“Sure why not” – Nancy's comment on putting a garage door in the kitchen.
As a case study project, bARC has modified, experimented, and transformed this residence into a home that works for the family. The original design concept, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, sought to preserve the original 1916 craftsman detailing in the front half of the house, while fusing an industrial loft into what remained of the original back structure.
The durable, yet crisp materials palette of the new kitchen includes solid wood cabinet doors and drawers, pressed concrete counter tops, stainless steel appliances, and a commercial glass and aluminum garage door that opens out onto a deck over the back yard. The new door blurs the boundary between interior and exterior and floods the kitchen with morning sun.
