babienko was asked to renovate this 1952 West Seattle midcentury modern single-family home by undoing ‘improvements’ completed in the mid-1970s. By combining the living, dining, and kitchen spaces, the focal point of the main floor level directs you to the west-facing panorama vista of Puget Sound. The Zen-inspired material palette embraces the existing terrazzo floors and brightens the entire home, integrating the midcentury modern characteristics with the new updates effortlessly. Additions of blackened steel at the guardrails and fireplaces add subtle interest.
